Nokia seems to be very serious about its Ovi branding. After bringing most of its services under the “Ovi” brand, it is on the verge of launching a new browser under the same brand.
While we now know that Nokia is actually designing a new Ovi branded browser, it is uncertain if it is developing a new browser ground up or just re-branding its existing browsers. This re-branding strategy might just be that its renaming its existing browser to “Ovi”. However, we think the chance of this being a purely re-branding thing to be quite slim. The reason being that the default browser on Nokia devices are a part of the OS and are not separately downloaded components. On the other hand, this new Ovi browser has its own download page which Nokia has set up at the Beta Labs website and at the Ovi website.
Another speculation is regarding the possibility of Nokia actually building its own Browser brand. Ovi could be a brand under which it might also launch a desktop browser for PCs. However, we wonder whether taking a plunge into the desktop browser market is such a great idea in today’s circumstances.
Anyway, we patiently await the arrival of the Ovi browser to use it wherever Nokia wants us to use it. Desktop or mobile, it doesn’t matter!
